The start to the new season sees a new home strip for SS Lazio. They keep the same kit manufacturer in Puma and the colours are familiar to all Lazio fans with the light blue although this time there is an interesting detail running around the circular collar with a brick like grey pattern. I think it looks quite nice and a bit different to standard football shirts. Maybe the pattern is relating back to the brick synonymous of the open air theatres in Rome that were used for jousting and things like that a long time ago, showing a bit of Rome’s history in the shirt. It is a nice touch.
If you didn’t already know, Lazio are based in Rome and share their stadium with neighbours Roma. Although Lazio did not have the most productive of seasons last time around they will be hoping for better this time around. They have a good history with past players such as Gascoigne, Nedved, Veron and Vieri all having worn the famous blue Lazio shirts. The current crop of players do promise a good future particularly with men like Pandev and Brocchi playing for them.
Of late they have been playing somewhat in the shadow of their neighbours and great rivals Roma, who have recently been regularly in the later stages of the Champions League. It will be up to coach Ballardini to turn things around, and who knows, maybe with a few smart transfers in could be them in the Champions League in 12 months time. Of course when you buy the shirt it would not be complete without an official name and number on the back, if I had to choose I would go for Pandev, as I think he is an impressive striker, at club level and international level.
