Online betting firm 188bet have announced a double sponsorship deal for the 2009-10 Premiership season with the news that both Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic will have their football kits sponsored by the firms logo next season.
The deal to sponsor the Premiership football shirts replaces the existing sponsorship deals the clubs had with Reebok and JJB Sports respectively.
Reebok is also the stadium naming-rights partner of Bolton Wanderers. However, a spokesman for the club confirmed the 188Bet deal would not change this aspect of the deal with Reebok, which runs until 2016.
Wigan and Bolton will wear the 188Bet-sponsored kits for the first time this weekend when the two clubs play their penultimate games of the 2008/09 football season.
In recent years a raft of online gaming companies have turned to football sponsorship as a way to reach core consumers. The biggest current deal in the Premier League is Mansion’s sponsorship of Tottenham Hotspur, while SBOBET is the current shirt sponsor of West Ham United.
Fellow gaming companies Bet24, 888.com and 32Red have also signed sponsorship deals with Premier League clubs in the past.
