Earlier this Month, Glasgow Celtic released their new International Away Kit for Seasons 2009/10.
This kit is made up of a White Shirt, Celtic Tartan shorts and White socks. Due to the main colour being white, as was a previous international away strip, it is unlikely Celtic will use this very often, except perhaps in Europe.
The main point of the new strip is the Celtic tartan, which features on both the shoulder of the shirt, and in the shorts. This makes the strip something of a collector’s item for the future. As with the bumble bee shirt of the 90s (which is rumoured to be making a re-appearance as a new away strip) these shorts in particular will be something most fans will want to have in a drawer in ten or so years time.
The tartan which is said to be in the club’s own pattern, represents the Scottish home of the club, and the colours of pine green, white and yellow gold reflects Celtic’s famous Irish connection and roots.
The lightweight performance Dri-Fit shirt, in classic, clean Football White features the Celtic tartan taping on the shoulder, to tie the design into the shorts, and the club crest over the left chest.
As previously stated the shorts are the focal point of the kit. The full on tartan print is extremely striking and is sure to be a hit with Celtic fans around the world.
The plain white socks feature a pine green hoop.
As I mentioned before this Celtic shirt may not be worn frequently by the side other than pre-season to promote it and perhaps in league matches against Hibs. But with the tartan shorts being a different look, and with the shirt being a bright colour with no immediate off putting design, it’s not the worst top Celtic have ever released.
