The new season for Middlesbrough will see many changes for them. The main one being that they will be playing their football in the Championship. It will be interesting to see how they do. Another change for the club is a new home strip. The sponsor Garmin stays the same but they have changed kit manufacturer to Adidas. It looks like a smart hit with a lot more white in it, in particular on the shorts and socks. The shirt design looks similar to that of the new Spain shirt with the curved splash running from the collar downwards. I think it is definitely an improvement on last season’s shirt and in my opinion it looks a bit more like what you would expect a football shirt to look like if you know what I mean.

Middlesbrough, also known as The Boro have always had a predominantly red home shirt with white trim, and their away strip is normally black and blue. They have had quite a lot of success in recent times, playing in Europe and getting the some domestic cup finals, so it will be surprising to see them plying their trade in the Championship next season. But in capable hands of Gareth Southgate they should have enough to bounce back up as long as they stay solid and do not loose too many of their key players such as Tuncay and Downing.

They have had some big name players play for them over the years, players like Merson, Arca, Gascoigne, Juninho and Ravanelli. Personally if I had to choose my favourite player of theirs to be on the back of my Middlesbrough shirt I would probably go for someone like Merson, for his links with my favourite team, Arsenal. He was a good player for them, showing flashes of brilliance that he became well known for during his time with the Gunners.

Steve Aitken
