Manufactured in time for Germany’s World Cup preparations Adidas have released their latest edition of the nation’s home shirt. The CLIMACOOL® shirt is 100% polyester tricot made to keep you dry and comfortable, something I’m not completely sure about. However the professional squad’s shirts are made from Adidas’s TECHFIT® range and there powerWEB® design, which really is over the top! And if you can, check the promo video out for it by Adidas. Only the Germans could pull this off!
The shirt keeps its obvious primary colour, with Adidas’s three stripe design along the sleeves, apart from where a badge could be placed. The noticeable change from previous kits is the nation’s three coloured stripes running through a badge set in a stitched black shield.
The stitching is a lot finer and more detailed than usual for Adidas especially around the sleeves. With the touch of gold, i.e. the crest and small piping around the badge, I think it is a very traditional design. Almost like the Euro 96’ shirt. Whereas the last tournament shirt had limited stitching on it, it did feel somewhat too light and a little cheaply made; the banner like design gave a boring modern feel to it.
I’m getting the general consensus on this shirt amongst fans, not just from Germany, is that they love it. I have to admit, Adidas’s TECHFIT® version looks like it would fit fantastic, however I would not pay the going rate for one. This shirt is more than enough; even if I’m still not convinced it fits properly around the body. A little loose.
Overall, very impressed with this shirt. And apart from the small niggle about the fitting around the chest and waist would give this shirt an impressive 9/10. If only England could produce home shirts like this one.
